A peaceful WCF service initiates a client callback whenever a server update occurs

In the process of developing a WCF RESTFUL service on top of a c++ console application, I am confronted with an issue. The client accesses this c++ application through my restful wcf service using a browser. Every time there is an update received by my wcf service from the c++ application, it is imperative that this status update is promptly sent to the browser client without causing any page refresh. Seeking guidance on how best to achieve this task. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Answer №1

Regrettably, achieving this functionality with WCF and the WebHttpBinding (REST) binding is not possible. An alternative approach would be to opt for a WCF binding that facilitates callbacks or consider implementing SignalR within an ASP.net WEB.API service.

It's important to note that the WCF bindings that support callbacks (duplex) include:

NetTcpBinding NetNamedPipeBinding WSDualHttpBinding
