Accessing the Angular scope and making modifications using Chrome browser

I need to access the $scope value in order to update its data values via a chrome extension. I have attempted to obtain the $scope using the code below:

var $scope = angular.element(document.getElementById('name')).scope()

While this code works fine when testing it in the console, I encountered an error when trying to run it within the extension: angular is not defined. In an attempt to resolve this issue, I included the angular.js file in my Chrome JS file as well. However, I still cannot successfully retrieve the $scope and make changes to the data. Below is the code I am currently using:

$scope = angular.element(document.getElementById('name')).scope();

    console.log($scope);
    $scope.$apply(function () {
        $scope.data.contact_type = 20;
        $scope.data.contact_name = $('#Contactname').val();
        $scope.data.contact_company = $('#contactCompany').val();
        $scope.data.contact_email = $('#contactEmail').val();
        $scope.data.contact_phone = $('#contactPhone').val().replace('/', '-');
        $scope.data.hide_contact_email = 1;

    });`

If anyone can offer assistance in successfully obtaining the $scope and making changes within the extension, it would be greatly appreciated.

To include angular in your manifest.json, you must follow these steps:

Check out this sample code snippet below:

{
    "manifest_version": 2,
    "name": "your extension",
    "version": "1.0",
    "content_scripts": [
        {
            "matches": [
                "<all_urls>"
            ],
            "js": ["angular.min.js","content.js"]
        }
    ]
}
