Add a border to the element if its height exceeds 300 pixels

My web page has a dynamic element with an unpredictable height. As more content is added, the element grows, but I have restricted it with a max-height: 300px;. However, I would like to add a hint to the user when the element reaches its maximum height by displaying a solid 2px border at the bottom of the element.

Is there a CSS solution for achieving this effect? If JavaScript is needed, how would you implement it (I am using Angular)?

Answer №1

It looks like you've included the angularjs tag. Let's experiment with creating a custom attribute directive for this:

directive('maxHeightBorder', function(){
    return {
        restrict: 'A',
        link: function(scope, el, attr){
            if(el.height() >= attr.maxHeightBorder){
                el.css('border-bottom','2px solid');
            }
        }
    }
});

Then, use it in your code like this:

<div max-height-border="300"> <!-- set your max height here -->
</div>

Once the rendered height reaches 300px, a 2px solid border-bottom will be displayed
