Adjusting the document root in an Apache site's directory

I have been working on my portfolio website and I want to showcase some past projects. There is one particular website that I developed in the past which is no longer live, but I have an archived version of it. I would like to be able to view this old site at mydomain.com/work/nameofoldsite.

I recently uploaded the archive of the old site to the work folder on my portfolio website. However, I realized that all the links within the site are absolute paths, which means that I would need to go through every page and make changes. For example, a picture that used to be located at /files/img.jpg now needs to be accessed at 

/work/nameofoldsite/files/img.jpg

Is there a way to integrate this old website into my new portfolio without having to modify all my existing code? Can I simply adjust the document root for the /work/nameofoldsite directory?

To modify the links on a website built solely with HTML, you can simply replace all instances of "/files" with "/work/nameofoldsite/files" in any text editor.

If you are using Apache, you can create an .htaccess file with mod rewrite enabled to handle this task:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^files/(.)*$ /work/nameofoldsite/files/$1 [L,QSA]
RewriteRule ^anotherfolderyouwanttomove/(.)*$ /work/nameofoldsite/anotherfolderyouwanttomove/$1 [L,QSA]

However, be cautious as modRewrite configurations can easily lead to errors.

If your site is managed through a CMS, there should be an option in the administration panel where you can specify the root directory of the CMS.
