Angular2's ErrorHandler can cause code to malfunction when an error occurs

import { Injectable, ErrorHandler, Inject, Injector } from '@angular/core';
import { MessengerService } from '../services';
import { MessageTypeEnum } from '../../shared';

@Injectable()
export class AppErrorHandler extends ErrorHandler {

    constructor(private messengerService: MessengerService) {
        super(true);
    }

    handleError(error) {
        console.log('ERROR!');
        console.log(error);
        this.messengerService.showMessage('An error occurred', 'We apologize for any inconvenience caused', MessageTypeEnum.Error);
    }
}

The logging function is operational, however, the application still crashes. Additionally, the logging captures HTTP errors which I want to address by ensuring that every error is logged while allowing the rest of the Angular app to function normally.

Some examples of errors include: value.getMonth is not a function at ViewWrappedError.ZoneAwareError OR 404, 500 http errors
