Avoid clicking on links while the webpage is still loading

I am facing an issue with my website where I need to intercept link-clicking events using jQuery. Everything works fine, but there is a problem if a user clicks on a link before JavaScript finishes loading, causing it to redirect to another page in error.

I have been searching for a solution to prevent link-clicking until the page finishes loading, but currently, the only workaround is to add onclick="return false;" to all my links, which is not the most elegant solution. Are there any better alternatives available?

Answer №1

One potential solution is to incorporate an initialization script:

<script language="javascript>

var initialized = false;

function SetInitialized() { initialized = true; }

window.onload = SetInitialized;

</script>

Subsequently, you can include onclick="return initialized;" in your href attribute. This will prevent the link from being clickable until the page has fully loaded.

Answer №2

Encountering a problem today, I conducted some research and discovered an alternative solution. After the page has fully loaded, the document.readyState will be 'complete', allowing you to verify its value like so:

 if(document.readyState=='complete')
 {
   //// execute script or perform any desired actions.
 }

Answer №3

Utilize jQuery to manipulate the hrefs within the anchor tags when the document is ready. Consider adding a '#' prefix to your links and then having jQuery remove them accordingly.

Answer №4

Here is my workaround: Utilizing a masking element to block any click events on the link.

<div class="LinkMasker"></div>

.LinkMasker {
    position: absolute;
    z-index: 999;
    width: ...px;
    height: ...px;
}

Once all the necessary events are registered after page load, I then remove the masker:

$('.LinkMasker').remove();
