Buttons to maximize, minimize, and close individual sections on a webpage

I am fairly new to front end development and I must say, I am absolutely enjoying every bit of it.

Here is a little challenge that came my way. It may seem simple to some but it got me thinking.

I have three sections on the right side of my website. I wanted to implement a feature to maximize, minimize, and close each of these sections. After dabbling in jquery and using methods like SlideUp() and slideDown(), I finally achieved success!

My buttons are structured as follows:

<h2 id = "Heading" style="background-color: grey ;">Movie Names
<button id = "minimise" > - </button>
<button id = "maximise" > + </button>
<button id = "close" > x </button>
</h2>

However, I noticed a gap between these buttons on my webpage. I desire a layout similar to how windows display their maximize, minimize, and close buttons.

Additionally, I am curious about how I can add space between 'Movie Names' and the buttons to adjust their positioning.

Thank you for your help!

Answer №1

It seems that the issue is related to the whitespace caused by line wrapping. Inline elements, like button, will display any surrounding whitespace in an inline manner.

You can test whether this solution works:

<h2 id="Heading" style="background-color:grey;">Movie Names
  <button id="minimise">-</button
  ><button id="maximise">+</button
  ><button id="close">x</button
></h2>

Update: Check out the visual comparison on JSfiddle. See the difference between your code and my code. In the second example, there is no visible whitespace between the button elements. However, keep in mind that margins, outlines, and other styling properties might create the illusion of whitespace, which can be adjusted using CSS.
