Customize the background color of Material UI input components on standard labels

Currently using react material ui and interested in changing the background color of a standard input. The issue arises when the label is overridden by the background color when the input is not selected.

Input selected

Input not selected

This is my attempted solution:

  overrides: {
    MuiInput: {
      root: {
        backgroundColor: '#FF0000'
      }
    },
   }

The input field code:

  <TextField />

The only workaround I have discovered so far is adding transparency to the color. Is there another way to change the background of the input without affecting all components?

Answer №1

If you're utilizing the <TextField/> Component, consider customizing the root styles of the <TextField/>.

For example, take a look at this -> Codesandbox

const theme = createMuiTheme({
  overrides: {
    MuiTextField: {
      root: {
        backgroundColor: "#FF0000"
      }
    }
  }
});
