Deploying an Angular application on AWS EC2 without using nginx as a reverse proxy

Our team has been tackling the challenge of hosting an Angular application on AWS. A question has emerged: can we deploy the Angular application without relying on nginx? This inquiry arose when we successfully deployed a node.js application without any hosting tool. Initially, we utilized pm2 for this purpose, but eventually phased it out for the API portion. Now we are exploring the possibility of running the Angular application without nginx.

Answer №1

Absolutely, it is entirely possible to host an Angular application consisting solely of static files (HTML, CSS) while running the backend services on a different host.

Instead of using AWS EC2 for running the static web application, a more efficient and cost-effective solution would be utilizing AWS CloudFront and AWS S3 for hosting purposes. This approach not only enhances performance but also significantly reduces costs.

To learn more about this setup, check out: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonCloudFront/latest/DeveloperGuide/getting-started-secure-static-website-cloudformation-template.html

Answer №2

If you're looking for the most advanced method of hosting Angular apps on AWS, look no further than S3 + CloudFront. I recently published a comprehensive guide detailing exactly how to set this up.

Say goodbye to manually configuring nginx on EC2 - with this setup, it's all taken care of for you.
