Display the div only during the printing process

Imagine I have a situation where there is a block of content that I only want to show when printing. It looks something like this:

<div id="printOnly">
     <b>Title</b>
     <p>
        Printing content
     </p>
</div>

Is there a way to hide this div while the page is rendering, but then have it appear when printing?

Answer №1

To achieve this, you will require a bit of CSS coding.

#showOnly {
   visibility: hidden;
}

@media screen {
    #showOnly {
       visibility: visible;
    }
}

Answer №2

@media screen
{
    #printOnly{display:none;}
}

@media print
{
    #printOnly{}
}

Answer №3

Consider implementing media query for your solution.

For your specific case:

#printOnly {
    display: none;
}

@media print {
    #printOnly {
        display: block;
    }
}

Answer №4

To link an external CSS stylesheet specifically for printing, you can use the media="print" attribute:

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="print" href="print.css">

Answer №5

To tackle the issue of non-printable content, one effective approach could involve encapsulating it within a wrapper:

<head>
    <style type="text/css">

    #printable { display: none; }

    @media print
    {
        #non-printable { display: none; }
        #printable { display: block; }
    }
    </style>
</head>
<body>
    <div id="non-printable">
        Your regular webpage material
    </div>

    <div id="printable">
        Content meant for printing
    </div>
</body>

Answer №6

/*printer settings*/
@media print {
    #printOnly { }
        /*add your custom printer styles here*/

}
/*desktop view*/
    @media screen {
    #printOnly { display: none;}
             /*styles for all screen sizes*/
}

Answer №7

@media screen { #onlyPrint:{visibility:hidden;} }
@media print{ #onlyPrint:{visibility:visible;} }

Answer №8

To switch between print and screen options, you'll need to use a media query.

@media screen { /* styling for screen option*/

p {
font-family: verdana, sans-serif;
font-size: 17px;
}

}

@media print { /* styling for print option*/

p {
font-family: georgia, serif;
font-size: 14px;
color: blue;
}

}
