Do iframes not utilize parental jquery?

I have a homepage that utilizes jQuery by loading it from the ajax google APIs in the head> tag.

<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.10.2/jquery.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

I attempted to use jQuery functions within an iframe list.php -> head> tag:

 <script type="text/javascript>
$(document).ready(function() {
 $.ajaxSetup({ cache: false }); // This addresses an IE bug as without it, IE only loads the first number and fails to refresh
setInterval(function() {
    $("#listts3").load("http://www.mydomain/list.php", "");
}, 60000);
});

However, I encountered this error:

Uncaught ReferenceError: $ is not defined list.php:153
(anonymous function)

Is it possible that the iframe does not inherit the jQuery source from the parent? Do I need to load jQuery again within the iframe as well?!

Answer №1

Could it be that the iframe is not using the jquery parent source?

Absolutely. That's how iframes operate. They exist independently from the page they are inserted into.

Do I need to load jquery again in the iframe as well?!

Indeed. JavaScript and CSS do not pass through iframe boundaries (except in very rare circumstances cases).
