Encountering Errors with Angular JS Following Update from Version 1.1.0 to 1.1.1

After upgrading, I noticed that the ng-repeat function is taking significantly longer to load and is attempting to display additional content boxes without serving the actual content provided by $resource.

I have pinpointed the issue to the update from version 1.1.0 to 1.1.1. Although I checked the changelog, I couldn't identify a clear culprit, but it must be included in the updates.

Repository for this app: https://github.com/brianpetro/resume

This is my current Angular setup:

app = angular.module("Resume", ["ngResource"])

app.factory "Entry", ["$resource", ($resource) ->
  $resource("/entries")
]

@EntryCtrl = ["$scope", "Entry", ($scope, Entry) ->
  $scope.entries = Entry.query()
]

The issue arises when using ng-repeat on multiple views:

<html ng-app="Resume">
  <div ng-controller="EntryCtrl">
    <ul>
      <li ng-repeat="entry in entries">
        {{entry.title}}
      </li>
    </ul>
  </div>
</html>

Comparison between AngularJS version 1.1.0 and 1.1.1:

Answer №1

When transitioning from version 1.0.x to 1.1.x in my experience, it is not entirely necessary to add .json extension.

To ensure that a Rails app returns JSON without specifying the extension in the URL for Angular 1.1.x, you must instruct Angular to include an additional header in the HTTP request:

myModule.config(['$httpProvider', function ($httpProvider) {
    $httpProvider.defaults.headers.common['X-Requested-With'] = 'XMLHttpRequest';
}]);

Failure to do so will result in Rails rendering the entire HTML page instead of returning JSON by default.

Answer №2

The key to finding the solution was hidden in the URL file extension. From Angular version 1.1.1 onwards, it is essential to append '.json' to the resource.

 app = angular.module("Resume", ["ngResource"])

 app.factory "Entry", ["$resource", ($resource) ->
-  $resource("/entries")
+  $resource("/entries.json", {}, {}, {})
 ]

 app.factory "Done", ["$resource", ($resource) ->
-  $resource("/dones", {}, {update: {method: "PUT"}})
+  $resource("/dones.json", {}, {update: {method: "PUT"}}, {})
 ]

 app.factory "Resource", ["$resource", ($resource) ->
-  $resource("/resources", {}, {})
+  $resource("/resources.json", {}, {}, {})
 ]

I'm seeking clarification on whether this requirement stems from my Rails 4 back-end or if it is a new demand imposed by Angular?
