Enhance the annotation of JS types for arguments with default values

Currently, I am working within a code base that predominantly uses JS files, rather than TS. However, I have decided to incorporate tsc for type validation.

In TypeScript, one method of inferring types for arguments is based on default values. For example:

function doSomething(withProp = 5) {
  ...
}

The parameter withProp is automatically assumed to be a number by TypeScript, so attempting to use parseInt(withProp) may lead to unexpected results.

While I am aware that JSDocs can be used to specify types, in this particular scenario, I am faced with an anonymous function deeply embedded within a Vuex getter tree. Are there alternative methods available to assign types to these arguments?

Answer №1

whenVar = 5 within your script represents the predefined value of variable, however, it should not always be restricted to a numerical format.

If you provide a text or an element as input, its format may alter based on the argument provided.

The most effective method to verify the format is by developing a utility function that identifies the format of your input. (you can implement If ... else if.. else statement) Then utilize this function inside a getter to validate the incoming parameter.
