Executing an AngularJS function through CasperJS is a common task that can

I am facing a challenge with testing a directive within a controller. The unit tests I am trying to write involve executing this code, which is triggered not by a click event but rather by a socket.io emit. Instead of attempting to mock socket.io, I am exploring the option of directly calling the function from casper.js instead of phantom.js.

Below is the directive in question:

// exposed to UI with a pointer
scope.testingText = testingText;

function testingText(int, string) {
    return int + string;
}

The function available in the casper suite is as follows:

function callDirectiveJavascript() {
    casper.evaluate(function () {
        var test = scope.testingText(100, 'string');
        console.log('test:' + test);
    });
}

The console.log statement never seems to be executed. When I run

casper.on( 'page.error', function (msg, trace) {
    this.echo( 'Error: ' + msg, 'ERROR' );
});

scope is reported as being undefined. I am currently exploring ways to access the scope of my directive.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Apart from dealing with the console.log issue, I have observed others invoking js via casper with similar implementations, but nothing specific to angularjs.

The response declaring this as a repeat was beneficial in resolving the problem, yet I do not perceive it to be an absolute repetition. It fails to cover accessing functions within the directive.

When declaring items within your directive scope

section of the directive declaration

var directive = {
    restrict: 'A',
    replace: true,
    scope: {
        denominations: '='
    },
    templateUrl: '/app/myPath.html',
    link: link
};

HTML of controller containing embedded directive

<div id="denominations" cr-denominations denominations="vm.denominations"></div>

method to access directive scope is shown below

angular.element(document.getElementById('elementId')).children().scope().theFunctionINeeded(dataObject);

If you are not passing items into the directive, you may utilize:

scope: true

in the directive declaration and avoid using the .children() notation.
