Exploring the world of Typescript TSX with the power of generic

Introducing JSX syntax support in Typescript opens up new possibilities. I have an expression that functions smoothly with traditional *.ts files, but encounters issues with *.tsx files:

const f = <T1>(arg1: T1) => <T2>(arg2: T2) => {
   return { arg1, arg2 };
}

I am curious to know if there is a way to make it work within a *.tsx file?

Answer №1

If you want to make sure it's recognized as a type parameter rather than a JSX element, simply insert a comma following the type parameter:

const f = <T1,>(arg1: T1) => <T2,>(arg2: T2) => {
   return { arg1, arg2 };
};

Another option is to utilize function expressions instead:

const f = function<T1>(arg1: T1) {
    return function<T2>(arg2: T2) {
        return { arg1, arg2 };
    };
};

Alternatively, in this particular case, this approach also works:

const f = <T1, T2>(arg1: T1) => (arg2: T2) => {
   return { arg1, arg2 };
};

Answer №2

The issue arises from parsing ambiguity, which can be resolved by including an explicit constraint on T1.

const f = <T1 extends unknown>(arg1: T1) => {
    return { arg1 };
}

By default, type parameters like T1 have a constraint of unknown. Therefore, in this scenario, your code remains functionally equivalent.

Apply this solution to each arrow function within your original example for optimal results.
