Get information that has been uploaded using ajax

I need help with my code for sending data via ajax to an update.php page.

$(document).ready(function() {
  $("#modify").click(function() {
    var a = $("#a").val();
    var b = $("#b").val();
    var c = $("#c").val();
    $.ajax({
      type: "POST",
      data: {
        a: 'a',
        b: 'b',
        c: 'c',
        id: 'id'
      },
      url: "update.php",
      success: function(result) {

      }
    });
  });
});

In the update page, I retrieve the data like this

id = $_POST["id"];
a = $_POST["a"];
b = $_POST["b"];
c = $_POST["c"];

I'm having trouble getting it to work, is there an issue with the code?

Answer №1

The solution is quite effective, although I believe it would be better to store the strings directly in the variables of the 'data' object.

 let x = $("#x").val();
    let y = $("#y").val();
    let z = $("#z").val();
   $.ajax({
      type: "POST",
      data: {
        x: x,
        y: y,
        z: z,
        id: id
      },

Answer №2

After reviewing your code, it appears to be functioning correctly. However, I recommend double-checking the URL.

To effectively identify any potential errors, consider adding a console.log() statement within the success callback, like so:

     url: "update.php", //verify this
      success: function(result) {
           console.log(result);

         // Alternatively, you can use alert(result) instead of console.log(result)
        // alert(result)

       }

Additionally, ensure that this snippet is included in your PHP code:

<?php
   print_r($_POST);
?>

By following these steps and then clicking on the button, you should be able to view the result in the browser's console.
