Seeking guidance on initiating the use of the Graph API to fetch fundamental public details from an Instagram account, such as account name, likes, post date, image URL, and description. While I successfully accomplished this task with the Instagram API, I am struggling to find examples on implementing it with the Instagram Graph API.
Indeed, the Instagram API is set to deprecate certain APIs by 2018 and complete API deprecation is scheduled for 2020: https://developers.facebook.com/blog/post/2018/01/30/instagram-graph-api-updates/ - where everything will transition to FB graph API.
The older Instagram API Platform will be deprecated in three phases leading up to full deprecation in early 2020.
Until July 31, 2018, the following features will still be available:
- Follower List: to view followers and followed users - Relationships: to follow and unfollow accounts on a user's behalf - Commenting on Public Content: to post and delete comments on public media as a user
Until December 11, 2018, the following features will remain accessible:
- Commenting: posting and deleting comments on owned media - Public Content: reading public profile info and media on behalf of a user - Likes: liking and unliking media on behalf of a user - Subscriptions: receiving notifications when media is posted
Finally, until early 2020, only the Basic feature allowing access to a user's profile information and media will be supported.
It is true that there is currently no way to access public content through the graph API.
Any attempts to search for public content using the API won't be feasible.
