Guide to organizing the table according to the values (timestamps) in a specific column

In one of the tables I'm working with, there is a column called uploadedOn. You can see it in action here: https://stackblitz.com/edit/angular-ivy-tntvst?devToolsHeight=33&file=src/app/app.component.ts

1: https://i.stack.imgur.com/aQ6wh.png. My goal is to sort the table rows based on the time stamp of the uploadedOn column. Here's the code snippet I tried:

<ng-container matColumnDef="uploadedOn">
      <th mat-header-cell *matHeaderCellDef mat-sort-header sortActionDescription="Sort by request timestamp">Uploaded On</th>
      <td mat-cell *matCellDef="let element">{{ element.uploadedOn | date:'MM/dd/YYYY, hh:mm:ss aa'}}</td>
    </ng-container>

Unfortunately, this didn't work as expected. Can someone guide me on how to achieve sorting the table so that rows with more recent UploadedOn values appear at the top (in chronological order)?

<div class="avails-set-table" *ngIf="availSetsLoaded">
  <table mat-table [dataSource]="inputAvailsList" multiTemplateDataRows matSort matSortActive="uploadedOn" matSortDirection="asc">

I also attempted another method but it didn't yield the desired result either. Ideally, I'd like the table to list rows starting from the most recent year, followed by month, and so forth.

Please refer to this StackBlitz link for more details.

Answer №1

To organize the data in the table by default, utilize matSortActive and matSortDirection

<table matSort matSortActive="uploadedOn" matSortDirection="asc">

Alternatively, in TypeScript:

@ViewChild(MatSort) sort: MatSort

...
...

this.sort.sort({ id: 'uploadedOn', start: 'asc'}) as MatSortable);
this.dataSource.sort = this.sort;

You can access the demonstration through the attached StackBlitz link
