Guide to validating a form using ref in Vue Composition API

Incorporating the Options API, I implemented form validation in this manner:

template:

<v-form ref="form" v-model="valid" lazy-validation @submit.prevent>
...

script:

methods: {
  validate() {
    this.$refs.form.validate();
    ...
  }
}

Now, with the introduction of the latest Composition API, how can I trigger the validate() function on the form?

Answer №1

To start, create your template reference by defining a ref with the same name used in the template (1️⃣). Next, include a validate method within your setup() function (2️⃣):

<template>
  <v-form ref="myForm">...</v-form>
</template>

<script>
import { ref } from '@vue/composition-api'

export default {
  setup() {
    const myForm = ref(null)  // 1️⃣

    return {
      myForm, // 1️⃣

      validate() { // 2️⃣
        myForm.value.validate()
      },
    }
  }
}
</script>

Answer №2

Utilizing Vue 2 with the composition api :

To access the ref, you can utilize the context, which is the second parameter of the setup function:

<v-form ref="form" v-model="valid" lazy-validation @submit.prevent="validate">

script :

export default {
  setup(props,context) {
    functions validate() {
       context.refs.form.validate()
      }

    return {
       validate
    }
  }
}

Alternatively, you can destructure that context within the parameter :

export default {
  setup(props,{refs}) {
    functions validate() {
      refs.form.validate()
      }

    return {
       validate
    }
  }
}
