How can I display the value of a radio button that has been chosen?

Would you mind sharing how to display the selected value of a radio button? I attempted it this way, but unfortunately, it did not work. You can view my code at this link.

<mat-radio-group [(ngModel)]="favoriteName">
  <mat-radio-button *ngFor="let name of names" [value]="name">
    {{name}}
  </mat-radio-button>
</mat-radio-group>

<div class="example-selected-value">Your favorite season is: {{favoriteName}}</div>

I encountered issues with the ngmodel in this example. Would you be able to provide an alternative method that does not involve using [(ngModel)]? Additionally, could you explain why the ngmodel approach was unsuccessful?

Answer №1

Make sure to include a name tag for form elements when using the form tag.

<mat-radio-group [(ngModel)]="favoriteName" name="something">

Answer №2

When using the form tag, it is important to name your form elements as mentioned by Sachila Ranawaka or you can include ngModelOptions like this:

<mat-radio-group [(ngModel)]="favoriteName"  [ngModelOptions]="{standalone: true}">
  <mat-radio-button *ngFor="let name of names" [value]="name">
    {{name}}
  </mat-radio-button>
</mat-radio-group>

<div class="example-selected-value">Your favorite season is: {{favoriteName}} </div>

If you encounter an error in your console, make sure to thoroughly explain all aspects of it.

Answer №3

Don't forget to add a name attribute to the mat-radio-group

<mat-radio-group [(ngModel)]="favoriteName" name="fav">
  <mat-radio-button  *ngFor="let name of names" [value]="name">
    {{name}}
  </mat-radio-button>
</mat-radio-group>

<div class="example-selected-value">Your preferred choice is: {{favoriteName}}</div>
</form>
