How can I modify the content within a scoped `<style>` tag in Vue?

Is there a way to dynamically change the contents of a <style> block in my Vue component using Vue variables?

Many commonly suggested solutions involve inline styles or accessing the .style property with JavaScript. However, I am looking for a method to modify slider tracks and pseudo-elements similar to this question on Stack Overflow: .slider::-webkit-slider-thumb needed in javascript

If Vue's official stance is that <style> blocks are static, wouldn't it be great if there was something like <style scoped dynamic>, where the style sheet contents could be controlled by Vue?

Answer №1

I was able to achieve successful results following the guidance provided in this response (How to override scoped styles in Vue components?). By utilizing a non-scoped selector in the parent component with selectors that take precedence over the child component's styles, I was able to override the desired styles. The key takeaway from the answer was using "#app" as the beginning of the selector - the hurdle for me was simply including a non-scoped style block in the parent component.

Although this method proved effective, it lacks versatility. I am now curious to explore the concept of "putting styles into JS" and whether this approach would also allow me to override pseudo-element styles.
