I am working on a project where I have a group of options within a selection dropdown and my goal is to utilize JavaScript to deselect all chosen values, gather them into a string, and then send it over to my PHP script.
I just created a demo using jQuery because it simplifies the solution.
var string = "";
// loops through all selected options to create the value-string.
$('#id option:selected').each(function(key, element) {
string += $(element).val() + ', ';
});
// removes all selected options
$('#id option:selected').remove();
If you need to send the data to the server, check out these jQuery methods: jQuery.get() and jQuery.post().
When working with Javascript/DOM, it is important to keep in mind the select
element's multiple attribute.
var selectElem = document.getElementById('myselect'); // locate your select element
var strSelection = ''; // create a string to store selected items
for (let count = 0, limit = selectElem.options.length; count < limit; count++) // iterate over each option
if (selectElem.options[count].selected) // check if the option is selected
strSelection += selectElem.options[count].value + ','; // append the value to the string with a delimiter (you can choose different output format)
selectElem.selectedIndex = -1; // reset the selection so no options are selected
