HTML / CSS / JavaScript Integrated Development Environment with Real-time Preview Window

As I've been exploring different options, I've noticed a small but impactful nuance. When working with jQuery or other UI tools, I really enjoy being able to see my changes instantly. While Adobe Dreamweaver's live view port offers this functionality to some extent, it's not perfect. Kompozer also has a view port, but it doesn't update in real-time and lacks support for JS or actions. Does anyone know of an IDE besides Dreamweaver that provides this feature? I'm particularly interested in Linux-compatible options, but open to any suggestions.

Although this post is more than a year old, I wanted to share some exciting news with you if you are still looking for a solution. Adobe is currently working on a new product that might be exactly what you need. If you have the Creative Cloud subscription, there is a preview of the program available. It goes by the name Edge Code within the Creative Cloud environment, but it is also being developed as a standalone, open-source, platform-independent code editor under the name Brackets. While it doesn't offer live view within the program itself, it automatically opens your document in Chrome and updates as you make changes. What sets this program apart is that it is built using html, css, and JS, making it highly customizable to suit your needs. Currently in beta testing, you can download it at

While it may not meet all your needs (as it doesn't support javascript), dabblet is an excellent resource for composing html+css and seeing the live preview as you type in the browser.

Recently, I have fallen head over heels for Sublime Text 2. Despite trying out various IDE's, this one stands out the most in my opinion.

While watching a tutorial by Paul Irish on cutting-edge Web Development workflows for the year 2013 (video somewhat relevant), he mentioned a plugin that eliminates the need to constantly hit F5 to refresh the browser. Instead, the page updates automatically whenever a file is saved.

It seems that Sublime Text 2's popularity is on the rise and it is said to perform exceptionally well on Linux systems. The handy plugin in question is known as LiveReload ($10).

Although further investigation may be required, the potential benefits seem promising. More information here
