I am experiencing issues with Angular routing as it keeps redirecting me back to the main base url

Currently, I am attempting to utilize the angular router in order to navigate from one page to another.

Within my page, there is a button that, upon clicking, should direct me to a different page.

At this moment, my URL reads as:

http://localhost:4200/user/12345567
. When I click on the button to navigate away, here is what happens:

Below is the code snippet for my button:

leaveArea(){
    this.router.navigate([ 'account', 'dashboard'], {relativeTo: this.route});
}

The desired destination is

http://localhost:4200/account/dashboard
upon clicking the button.

However, instead of landing at

http://localhost:4200/account/dashboard
, I find myself being redirected to http://localhost:4200. Interestingly, there is a split-second glimpse of
http://localhost:4200/account/dashboard
before the final redirect takes place. Could this indicate an issue with the routing logic?

Edit

To provide further insight, I have included the routeTrace results below:

Edit

Here, you will find my routing file details:

const appRoutes: Routes = [

    { path: "", component: HomeComponent },

    { path: "account/dashboard", component: AccountDashboardComponent},

    {
         path: "user/:id", component: UserComponent
    }
];

@NgModule({
    imports: [RouterModule.forRoot(appRoutes, { enableTracing: true })],
    exports: [RouterModule]
})
export class AppRoutingModule {}

Answer №1

To navigate to a different page, you can utilize the router.navigateByUrl method in your Angular application. Here is an example:

leaveArea(){
    this.router.navigateByUrl('/account/dashboard');
}

Note: Adding a forward slash at the beginning of the route string will indicate that the routing should start from the root level.

Answer №2

We recommend updating your route configurations to

const appRoutes: Routes = [
    { path: "", redirectTo: "home", pathMatch: "full" }
    { path: "home", component: HomeComponent },
    { path: "account/dashboard", component: AccountDashboardComponent},
    { path: "user/:id", component: UserComponent }
];

Additionally, revise your navigation logic by using the following line of code

this.router.navigate(['/account', 'dashboard']);

Answer №3

You should prioritize the empty route last.

It must always be declared as final.

The sequence of routes in the configuration is crucial for efficient routing. The router follows a first-match wins approach, so more specific routes should precede less specific ones. (https://angular.io/guide/router)

Therefore...

const appRoutes: Routes = [

    { path: "account/dashboard", component: AccountDashboardComponent},

    { path: "user/:id", component: UserComponent},

    { path: "", component: HomeComponent}
];
