I'm experiencing an issue where the video from my server is not being displayed within the <video> tag in the browser, but when using the web URL, the video plays

When it comes to uploading a video, there are two options available: 1) Provide the web URL for the video, 2) Upload the actual video file.

The <video> tag works smoothly with a web URL as the source, but issues may arise when trying to play an uploaded video from a server path specified in the src attribute of the tag.

Here are the example URLs: 1) Web URL: https://www.example.com/video.mp4 (Play the video). 2) Server URL: (Doesn't play)

Answer №1

Can you attempt to download the initial video and transfer it onto your server to see if it functions properly?

Answer №2

Your server's URL only works within a local network, meaning you can access your website within that network. It seems like your website isn't hosted at the standard 192.168.x.xxx IP address. Do you have a FTP server where your data is stored? If so, save the video there and link it to your domain. In WordPress, you could achieve this using some PHP code that directs to the theme path. Alternatively, why not just use the web address to link the video? What's stopping you from doing that? If you're interested in setting up your own server at home, check out this helpful guide.

Answer №3

When working with your server, it is recommended to utilize the 301 HTTP Status Code. This will signal to clients that the response should be interpreted as a URL redirection rather than just plain text.
