Is a Selenium loop a viable option?

 </head>
    <body>
    <table cellpadding="1" cellspacing="1" border="1">
    <thead>
    <tr><td rowspan="1" colspan="3">test</td></tr>
    </thead><tbody>
    <tr>
        <td>click</td>
        <td>//div[@id='wrapper']/div/div/div</td>
        <td></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
        <td>waitForElementNotPresent</td>
        <td>//div[contains(@class,'ui-widget-overlay')]</td>
        <td></td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
        <td>click</td>
        <td>//div[@id='dataTableContent']/div/div/div[2]/table/tbody/tr[1]/td</td>
        <td>2</td>
    </tr>
    <tr>
        <td>waitForElementNotPresent</td>
        <td>//div[contains(@class,'ui-widget-overlay')]</td>
        <td></td>
    </tr>
    <!-- Repeat these command sets for a total of four times -->
    </tbody></table>
    </body>
    </html>

I wish to traverse through 4 sections, each with distinct table div paths.

/div/div/div[2]/table/tbody/tr[1]/td --> Going from 1 to 4

How can I achieve this efficiently by minimizing the code and potentially implementing a while loop?

The Selenium code includes 18 commands in total.

Thank you

Answer №1

If you are working with Selenium IDE instead of WebDriver, the only way to implement a "while" loop is by running plain JavaScript code.

<tr>
  <td>store</td>
  <td>iterator</td>
  <td>1</td>
</tr>
<tr>
  <td>storeEval</td>
  <td>while (iterator <= 4) { browserBot.click("/div/div/div[2]/table/tbody/tr[1]/td[" + iterator + "]" }</td>
  <td></td>
</tr>

Remember to experiment with this code as it is just pseudo-code, but it should provide a good starting point for solving the issue using Selenium IDE.
