Is it not possible to generate HTML tags using jQuery and JavaScript in JSF?

I'm currently working with jsf 2.0 and richfaces 4.0 to develop my application. Occasionally, I incorporate jQuery and JavaScript functions for displaying and hiding elements. However, I've encountered an issue when trying to generate tags within the xhtml page.

For example: I am attempting to add an image to the rich:autocomplete component in JSF for each search result. The code snippet looks like this:

<script type="text/javascript">
function addPhotoPage(){
    var allDiv=$('#frmContent\\:txtPatientSearchItems').find('div');
    $.each(allDiv,function(cnt,data){
   $(this).append("<img src="./resources/images/photo.png">");
    });
}
</script>

This code is included in the xhtml page.

JSF rigorously validates all tags, hence it restricts me from appending the img tag to the search results.

Thank you.

Did you know that Richfaces comes with both Prototype and jQuery? This means that when using Richfaces, the symbol $ is actually referencing Prototype, not jQuery. To avoid any confusion in your code, it's recommended to use jQuery explicitly instead of $.

Another best practice is to use single quotes ' instead of double quotes " when defining attributes in your <img> tags.

To simplify your jQuery code, consider making the following changes:

function addPhotoPage() {
    jQuery("#frmContent\\:txtPatientSearchItems").find("div").append("<img src='./resources/images/photo.png'>");
}
