Is there a navigation feature in VueJS that functions similarly to React Router?

I am currently working on enhancing the navigation experience of an existing vueJS application that utilizes Vue Router. When working with React, I typically structure breadcrumbs in the following manner:

<Breadcrumbs>
  <Route path="/users">
    <Breadcrumb>
      <FaUsers />
      Users
    <Breadcrumb>
    <Route path="/users/new">
      <Breadcrumb>
        <FaUserPlus />
        Add
      </Breadcrumb>
    </Route>
  </Route>
</BreadCrumb>

This allows for easy definition of all breadcrumbs within a single HTML page. I would like to implement a similar approach using VueJS by creating a breadcrumb component that can be inserted into

<router-view name="breadcrumbs" />
:

const routes = createRouter({
  routes: [{
    path: "/users",
    components: {
      breadcrumbs: Breadcrumbs,
      default: Users
    },
    children: { ... }
  }, ...]
})

However, I have been unable to locate a built-in Route component in Vue that specifically handles route matching within HTML. Is there an alternative solution that allows me to avoid creating individual Vue components for each breadcrumb pattern?

Answer №1

It has been quite some time since I last worked extensively with React, but after reviewing the React Router documentation on <Route>, it seems

The main responsibility of the Route component is to display a UI when its path matches the current URL.

Upon briefly examining the Vue Router documentation, I didn't come across an existing component that offers similar functionality. However, creating a basic version in Vue should be relatively straightforward:

<!--Route.vue-->

<template>
  <slot v-if="route.path.includes(props.path)"></slot>
</template>

<script setup>
const props = defineProps({ path: String })
const route = useRoute()
</script>

This implementation should cover the fundamental use case of the React equivalent. You have the flexibility to make it more complex or keep it simple, highlighting one of the strengths of Vue. : )
