Is there a way to execute a javascript function that is located outside of my Angular application without having to import it?

I need to be able to trigger a JavaScript function that is located outside of my Angular app when a button is clicked.

Unfortunately, it seems that importing the JavaScript directly into my Angular app isn't feasible for this task.

The platform I am working on has a script called

main.ec78f7c1aff5e487c247.bundle.js
which contains a method doSomething() that I want to utilize in my Angular app. Both the script and Angular app are imported at the same location. (However, I'm hesitant to hard-code the import path in case the main script gets updated, changing the identifying code.)

By entering

window.location = 'javascript:doSomething("stringParamItNeeds")'
in the browser console, I am able to successfully call the desired method. But I am unsure how to achieve this within my Angular app itself. Can anyone provide guidance?

Answer №1

Ensure that the function you wish to use is accessible to your Angular application. One way to achieve this is by registering the function in the global scope, specifically the window object. This will allow you to call the function within your Angular app.

For instance - "function demo () { }" is the function you want to utilize in your Angular app, and it can be found in a script file named main.hash1.js

Step 1: Register the demo function on the window object, like so:

window.demo = function() { ... };

Step 2: Within your Angular app, you can easily invoke the function using window.demo() or simply demo().

Step 3: If you are using static type checking tools such as Lint/Sonar, you may encounter an error indicating that the demo object is not present on the window. To resolve this, declare or mock the demo property on the window object within your Angular app code.
