Issue: In an Angular electron app, a ReferenceError is thrown indicating that 'cv' is

I have been working on a face detection app using OpenCv.js within an Angular electron application. To implement this, I decided to utilize the ng-open-cv module from npm modules. However, when attempting to inject the NgOpenCVService into the constructor of a component, I encountered the following error message:

ERROR ReferenceError: cv is not defined https://i.stack.imgur.com/TTTOD.png

This issue prompted me to create a new Angular 8 project without the electron framework, in which the implementation worked seamlessly.

Now, my goal is to successfully integrate this functionality within the Angular electron app.

After extensive testing, I was able to pinpoint the source of the problem.

The ng-open-cv guide suggests creating a typings.d.ts file in the src directory and including:

declare var cv: any;

within this file.

However, it appears that the angular-electron framework does not recognize the cv attribute, despite functioning correctly in pure Angular environments.

If you have any insights or solutions to resolve this issue, please share them with me as I would greatly appreciate it.

Answer №1

After encountering the same issue, I found a solution by ensuring that the cv variable was declared in the script where it was being used:

import { forkJoin, Observable, empty, fromEvent, BehaviorSubject } from 'rxjs';
declare var cv: any; // <--- This line is crucial!

@Component({

I have created a repository based on an open-cv sample by devakone, originally built for Angular 6 and now updated to work with Angular 12:

I hope this information proves helpful.
