jQuery mistakenly sends a GET request instead of a POST request

Has anyone encountered an issue where attempting to send a POST request to Flask using jQuery results in a GET request instead? This is a new problem for me, and I'm unsure why it's happening.

jQuery

system_data = {
    "system_name":"system_name",
    "system_description":"system_description",
    "system_tags":"system_tags",
    "system_chart":"system_chart",
    "system_model":"system_model",
    "system_page":"system_page"
    }

$.ajax({
    method:"POST",
    url:"/",
    data:system_data,
    success: function(response) {
        alert("success");
    }
});

My IDE is indicating that this occurred:

GET /?system_name=system_name&system_description=system_description&system_tags=system_tags&system_chart=system_chart&system_model=system_model&system_page=system_page HTTP/1.1" 200

It is recommended to use type instead of method:

If you are using jQuery versions prior to 1.9.0, it is advised to use type as an alias for method.

jQuery.ajax()

$.ajax({
    type    : "post",
    url     : "/",
    data    : system_data,
    success : function(response) {
        alert("success");
    }
});
