Navigate to the Vuex Store to gain entry into the module

I have a module called ProfileData with the following structure:

export const ProfileData = {
    state: {
        ajaxData: null;
    },
    getters: {/*getters here*/},
    mutations: {/*mutations here*/},
    actions: {/*actions here*/}
}

This module is registered in my global store like this:

import {ProfileData} from './store/modules/ProfileData.es6'
const store = new Vuex.Store({
    modules: {
       ProfileData: ProfileData
    }
});

I've made sure to use Vue.use(Vuex) and set the store properly in new Vue({ store: store}). However, when I try to access the ajaxData property within the ProfileData module in one of my components using this.$store.ProfileData.ajaxData, I keep getting an error saying it's undefined. The same issue occurs when trying to read this.$store.ProfileData or this.$store.ajaxData, even though this.$store is defined and accessible. Checking the browser console, I can see that the ProfileData object has been added to the _modules property of the store.

What could be causing this problem in accessing the modules registered in Vuex? How can I successfully retrieve their data?

Answer №1

Accessing Vuex Module State Directly

To access a Module's local state, use the following format:

$store.state.moduleName.propertyFromState
.

For example:

this.$store.state.ProfileData.ajaxData

See it in action below:

const ProfileData = {
  state: {ajaxData: "foo"}
}
const store = new Vuex.Store({
  strict: true,
  modules: {
    ProfileData
  }
});
new Vue({
  store,
  el: '#app',
  mounted: function() {
  console.log(this.$store.state.ProfileData.ajaxData)
  }
})
<script src="https://unpkg.com/vue/dist/vue.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://unpkg.com/vuex"></script>

<div id="app">
  <p>ajaxData: {{ $store.state.ProfileData.ajaxData }}</p>
</div>

Direct Access to Getters, Actions, and Mutations of Modules

The way you access them depends on whether they are namespaced or not. Check out the demo below for clarification:

const ProfileDataWithoutNamespace = {
  state: {ajaxData1: "foo1"},
  getters: {getterFromProfileDataWithoutNamespace: (state) => state.ajaxData1}
}
const ProfileDataWithNamespace = {
  namespaced: true,
  state: {ajaxData2: "foo2"},
  getters: {getterFromProfileDataWithNamespace: (state) => state.ajaxData2}
}
const store = new Vuex.Store({
  strict: true,
  modules: {
    ProfileDataWithoutNamespace,
    ProfileDataWithNamespace
  }
});
new Vue({
  store,
  el: '#app',
  mounted: function() {
    // State is always accessed per module
  console.log(this.$store.state.ProfileDataWithoutNamespace.ajaxData1)
    console.log(this.$store.state.ProfileDataWithNamespace.ajaxData2)
    // Access to getters, actions, and mutations depends on namespace setting
    // Without namespace, use original name
    console.log(this.$store.getters['getterFromProfileDataWithoutNamespace'])
    // With namespace, use Namespace/prefix
    console.log(this.$store.getters['ProfileDataWithNamespace/getterFromProfileDataWithNamespace'])
  }
})
<script src="https://unpkg.com/vue/dist/vue.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://unpkg.com/vuex"></script>

<div id="app">
  <p>Check the console.</p>
</div>

Answer №2

It appears that you included the module by using key:value, with the designated key for accessing your module being Profile. You can either call your module using this key or define the module setting directly without the Profile key:

modules: {
    ProfileData
}
