Place the div absolutely on top of the Flash content

Can a <div /> be absolutely positioned over a Flash banner without including wmode="transparent" in the banner?

I am trying to display a lightbox above my ads, but I cannot make changes to the banners since they are provided by a third party.

Edit: The issue is mainly seen in IE where the Flash banner appears on top of the lightbox.

Answer №1

It may not be optimal, but a workaround could be to hide the banners when the lightbox is open.

Answer №2

Unfortunately, I don't believe so. If that were the scenario, we wouldn't have had to use wmode="transparent". However, I am hopeful that there may be a workaround.

Answer №3

I haven't personally tried this method, but one idea could be to utilize an iFrame workaround similar to the one used for Internet Explorer in order to display an absolute div on top of a select element. This involves creating a dynamically (or perhaps even hardcoded) iFrame container positioned above the Flash content with the lightbox information contained within.

If anyone has experimented with this approach and found it ineffective, please feel free to correct me. Even if it does work, I would advise against using it unless absolutely necessary due to potential complications.

Answer №4

How can I dynamically add the wmode attribute with a value of "transparent" using JavaScript?

jQuery

$(document).ready(function() {
    $('.flash_container embed').attr('wmode', 'transparent');
});

Answer №5

Give this a shot:

wmode="opaque"
. I believe it should enable the HTML div to show up on top of the flash content. It has proven effective for me on numerous occasions, although its behavior may vary across different web browsers.
