Redirecting the socket.io client to the Heroku service

Recently, I developed a real-time chat application using socket.io, Node.JS, and express. It was functional on my local server but now I want to connect it to an existing Heroku service instead. How can I achieve this?

Once I tried the following code,

var spot = io("https://spotim-demo-chat-server.herokuapp.com");

All functionalities like connection, disconnection, username registration, and messaging stopped working properly. There were no console.log messages appearing in the terminal related to these actions.

I also thought about creating an HTTP server that listens to the port and IP address of the Heroku service by using .listen(). However, I don't have access to these values for the assignment, only the Heroku URL.

If you're struggling with a specific issue, it would be helpful to see more of your code. I have successfully set up a basic socket.io client and can connect without any problems. To view only the client's messages, you can run it with DEBUG=spot-client node client.js. If you prefer to see all debug information from the socket client itself, use DEBUG=* node client.js. This might assist you in further diagnosing the problem. Don't forget to install the necessary packages like socket.io-client and debug. Hope this information proves useful!

const io = require('socket.io-client');
const debug = require('debug')('spot-client');
var spot = io("https://spotim-demo-chat-server.herokuapp.com");

spot.on('connect', function(){
    debug("connected");
});
spot.on('event', function(data){
    debug("event",data);
});
spot.on('disconnect', function(){
    debug("disconnect");
});
