Resolving conflict between a user-defined class name and a built-in class name

I am creating a TypeScript Map class that utilizes the built-in Map class along with generics. The problem arises when both classes have the same name. Is there a way to import the built-in Map using explicit namespace, similar to how it's done in Java? Or is there another method to resolve this conflict?

export class Map // my map
{
    private readonly items: Map<string, string>; // built-in map
}

I have examined the TypeScript core definition files but I couldn't determine if they make use of any namespaces.

Answer №1

After spending a considerable amount of time searching for an answer to this question myself, I finally found a solution that I stumbled upon.

In today's modern browsers, you can access the global namespace using the 'globalThis' variable (for example, globalThis.Map).

If you need this functionality in older browsers like EdgeHTML, you will need to use a polyfill.
