Struggling to understand how to define and utilize Static variables in TypeScript? If you're finding that they are consistently coming up

export class myClass implements OnInit {

counter = 0;
static counter: any;

onListItemClick(PackDef: PackDefinition): void {
    this.itemClicked.emit(PackDef);
    this.counter++;
    console.log(this.counter);
}

}

and..

import { myClass } from '../../../';
dialogRef.afterClosed().subscribe((result: any) => {
    this.saveMyMethod();
    console.log("Final1");
    console.log(myClass.counter);
});

saveMyMethod(): void {
    console.log("Final2");
    console.log(myClass.counter);
}

}

Can you explain why the correct counter is not showing after "Final1" or "Final2"? However, I do have the correct counter in myClass.

Answer №1

Don't give up, try using the following code snippet:

export class DemoClass implements OnInit {
static counter:any = 0;
static onItemClick(pack: PacketDefinition): void {
this.counter++;
console.log(this.counter);
}

Answer №2

Do you work with JavaScript coding? JavaScript does not support the type any and declaring a variable is done differently in TypeScript. Try using the following code snippet:

static counter = 0;
