Subdomain-specific URL helper in ZF2

I currently have a website that consists of four subdomains:

http://www.domain.com/
http://dev.www.domain.com/     # (development environment for www.domain.com)
http://blog.domain.com/
http://dev.blog.domain.com/    # (development environment for blog.domain.com)

My goal is to create links from the www subdomain to the blog subdomain in the following manner:

  • If I am on http://www.domain.com/, the link URL should be http://blog.domain.com
  • If I am on http://dev.www.domain.com/, the link URL should be http://dev.blog.domain.com

I am wondering if there is an efficient way to achieve this using Zend Framework 2's URL helper?

I attempted to set up my route for the blog subdomain like this:

'blog' => [
    'type'    => 'Zend\Mvc\Router\Http\Hostname',
    'options' => '[:1st.]blog.domain.com',
    'constraints' => [
        '1st' => 'dev',
    ]
],

The view's URL helper call on the dev.www subdomain is as follows:

$this->url('blog', [], null, true);

I initially thought that passing true as the fourth argument would preserve existing parameters. However, the generated URL always ends up as http://blog.domain.com/ instead of the intended http://dev.blog.domain.com/

Any suggestions or insights? I'm beginning to suspect a potential issue within ZF2. Thank you.

Answer №1

After some investigation, I finally found the solution to why the parameter was not staying the same - it was missing in the www subdomain. Therefore, I made adjustments to my routes for the www subdomain like this:

'www' => [
    'type' => 'Zend\Mvc\Router\Http\Hostname',
    'options' => [
        'route' => '[:test.]www.examplesite.com',
        'constraints' => [
            'test' => 'test',
        ),
    ),
    'may_terminate' => false,
    'child_routes' => [
        // Add literal routes specific to www here.
    ],

Now, when utilizing the URL view helper to move from www to blog or test.www to test.blog, the test parameter remains consistent! Success!
