Suggestions for managing AngularJS within ASP.NET Web Forms?

Recently, I integrated AngularJs into a website that is built with asp.net webforms.

I discovered that when using ng-Submit on a button, the form also triggers a Post call.

How can I prevent the form from automatically submitting so that Angular can perform its tasks?

Here is a snippet of my code:

<form id="form1" runat="server">
   <div>
     <input type="text" data-ng-model="enteredName" ng-model-instant/>
     <button class="btn" value="add" data-ng-submit="addName()">Add</button>
   </div>
</form>

//Function to Add Name
$scope.addName = function () {
   $scope.names.push($scope.enteredName);
   $scope.enteredName = '';
};

Please Note:

The ng-submit controller works correctly by adding the input to the string list, but afterwards, the form initiates a post call and the page goes to IsPostBack
.

Could someone advise me on how to prevent the form from performing a post submission?

Answer №1

Incorporating Angular with .NET for form development is best done using .NET MVC rather than .NET webforms. The latter relies on its own <form> element to maintain state, as evident when creating a new webforms page in Visual Studio which automatically includes:

<form runat="server" ID="Form1">

Furthermore, components like <asp:LinkButton> in webforms are actually rendered as <input> tags that depend on the parent form. This makes it challenging to add additional functionalities on top of the existing model. While possible, it requires a steep learning curve to navigate through all the nuances.

On the other hand, .NET MVC offers a more simplistic approach by exposing raw HTML with minimal wrappers, eliminating features like postbacks and viewstates. This makes it a more suitable environment for integrating Angular into your projects, especially for form building where you may encounter conflicts with .NET’s webforms functionality.

To begin, I recommend utilizing ng-click instead of ng-submit and avoiding the use of asp.net controls on pages that are integrated with angular.
