Surprising Outcomes of Negative Margin in jQuery Animation

Unique Project Summary

I am currently working on a website that incorporates a sliding menu feature. I have successfully implemented this functionality, and the display remains consistent during the animation transitions for sliding the menu in and out.

The Supported Browsers

Windows

The following browsers support the sliding menu feature:

  • Internet Explorer (11.0.9600.17239)
  • Firefox (32.0)
  • Opera (17.12)
  • Chrome (38.0.2125.44 beta-m)

Mac

The sliding menu feature works correctly on the following browsers:

  • Opera (12.15)
  • FireFox (32.0)
  • Chrome (36.0.1985.125)
  • Safari (6.0.5)

iOS

The sliding menu feature has been tested and functions properly on:

  • Chrome (37.0.2062.52)
  • Safari (Iphone 5s - version number not available)

Problematic Browser

An issue has been identified with the Safari browser running on Windows (version 5.1.7);

The Issue at Hand

When the user clicks to slide out the menu, it seems to reload and slide in from the right instead of appearing from the left like all other tested browsers.

Furthermore, when the menu is already visible and the user requests to slide it back in, it slides off to the left before sliding back out from the right, extending all the way off the left side once again.

Answer №1

It's essential to remember to utilize preventDefault while employing the event function with a hyperlink:

$('#navigation a').on('click', function(event) {
        event.preventDefault();
        navigate();
    });
