The cascading style sheet does not have any effect on the layout of the tables within the

I am trying to apply a CSS style to give all tables on my HTML pages a 1px border width. However, for some reason, the borders are not showing up in my HTML files! What could be causing this issue?

<!-- <style type="text/css"> -->
body{background-color:pink;
}
input{background-color:green;
font-color=blue;
}

table.center {
    margin-left:auto;
    margin-right:auto;
    border-width:10px solid;

}
.testext{color:gray};
<!-- </style> -->

Answer №1

There are a couple of issues that need to be addressed:

1) The property should be color instead of font-color. Also, ensure you use a colon (:) instead of an equal sign (=) between the property and its value.

2) It would be more appropriate to use the border shorthand property instead of specifying separate properties with border-width. For example, change it to:

border: 10px solid black;

To deepen your understanding of CSS syntax, consider reading the syntax module.

Answer №2

Revise

table.center {
    margin-left:auto;
    margin-right:auto;
    border-width:10px solid;

  }

to

table {
    border: solid 10px #000;

  }
table.center {
    margin-left:auto;
    margin-right:auto;
  }

If the border was applied correctly, table.center would only affect tables with the 'center' class name.

Answer №3

It's important to remember to keep the border styles separate. Using 'solid' as a value for border-width is not valid. For example, to create a 10px width border:

table.center {
    margin-left:auto;
    margin-right:auto;
    border-width:10px;
    border-style: solid;
}

Alternatively, you can combine the properties like this:

table.center {
    margin-left:auto;
    margin-right:auto;
    border: 10px solid;
}
