The <a> tag with href attribute is mistakenly identified as an external link when used in conjunction with the <base> tag

I am currently working with jQuery UI tabs using jquery 1.11.1 and jQuery ui 1.11.1.

Within the <base> tag in the head>, I have the following:

<base href="http://mytestdomain.com/" />

Upon loading the page, jQuery UI creates two tabs from my two <li> elements and then attempts to load content from the base URL via AJAX. However, jQuery UI does not recognize that the anchors' href are "local" rather than "external", causing the content to fail to load.

This is a snippet of my HTML:

<div id="container-1">
    <ul>
        <li><a href="#fragment-1">some text1</a></li>
        <li><a href="#fragment-2">some text2</a></li>
    </ul>
    <div id="fragment-1">
      LOREM IPSUM1
    </div>
    <div id="fragment-2">
      LOREM IPSUM2
    </div>
 </div>

My JavaScript code looks like this:

<script type="text/javascript">
    $(document).ready(function() {
        $('#container-1').tabs();
    });
</script>

If anyone could offer assistance, it would be greatly appreciated!

Answer №1

Thanks to the base tag you have set:

<base href="http://mytestdomain.com/" />

When links contain segments, they will be processed as shown below:

<a href="http://mytestdomain.com/#fragment-2">some text2</a>

This may lead to issues since it's referring to a directory.

To resolve this, adjust the href of the hyperlinks to include the path up to the file with the segment.

For instance:

<a href="index.html#fragment-2">some text2</a>

will now be understood as

<a href="http://mytestdomain.com/index.html#fragment-2">some text2</a>

allowing jQuery-UI to locate the element with id fragment-2 within index.html
