Tips for expanding the width of an image when employing position:relative

Below is the code snippet:

<table border="1" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2" height="250">
<tbody>
    <tr>
        <td>
            <div style="background: url('path to image'); width: 300px; height: 250px; position: relative;">
                <p style="width: 180px; font-size: 12px; margin-top: 35px; position: absolute;">Insert Your Text Here....</p>
            </div>
        </td>
    </tr>
</tbody>
</table>

Currently, I am looking to either widen the image or align it to the left.

I have attempted adjusting the width directly without success.

If anybody has any suggestions or tips, they would be greatly appreciated.

Answer №1

Instead of using the image as a background for the parent div, consider using the img tag to adjust the size of the image. Here's an example:

<table border="1" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2" height="250" width="300">
<tbody>
    <tr>
        <td>
            <div >
                <img style="float:left;" src="http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/03bc7f86de865926a1cb5036198d00a0?s=32&amp;d=identicon&amp;r=PG" width="150px" height="125px" /></div>
<p style=" display: block; width: 280px; font-size: 12px; margin-top: 35px; position: relative;">We understand you want to choose benefits that suit you and your life. And we regularly review things so we're always offering benefits you say you want to see.</p>
        </td>
    </tr>
</tbody>
</table>

Answer №2

To achieve the desired effect, consider utilizing the CSS3 background-size property.

.myelement {
    background-size: 275px 125px; /* adjust dimensions as needed */
}

Another approach is to embed your image directly into the HTML content and resize it using standard width and height attributes.

A few important points regarding the provided code snippet:

  1. Tables are intended for tabular data presentation, not for layout design.
  2. Ensure to include a closing DIV tag for proper HTML structure.
