Tips for inserting active class on the main menu and adding an active class along with an icon on the sidebar menu

I am working on a website where I want to add the active class only when a user clicks on the top menu. However, if the user chooses something from the sidebar menu, I also want to add an icon arrow next to it. Any ideas on how I can achieve this?

Check out my website here:

Here is how I am currently adding a class to every link:

$(function() {
  var href = window.location.href;
  $('nav a').each(function(e,i) {
    if (href.indexOf($(this).attr('href')) >= 0) {
      $(this).addClass('active');
    }
  });
});

Answer №1

Whenever the active class is applied to your a element, include a bit of CSS.

Insert this snippet and you will see something similar in the sidebar section: EXAMPLE

.left-content li.menu-item a.active:after {
    font-family: FontAwesome;
    content: '\f105';
    display: inline-block;
    color: #fff;
    margin-left: 15px;
}

This code segment will append an angle-right icon to the linked tag.
