Tips for sending an optional parameter to @Directives in Angular 2 using TypeScript

Here is a helpful guide on passing parameters to Angular 2 directives.

<p [gridGroup]="gridGroup"></p>

My goal is to have the parameter as optional so that it doesn't have to be included in every class referencing the html source.

Currently, I must include gridGroup in each class where this html source is referenced.

I attempted

<p [gridGroup?]="gridGroup"></p>

and

<p [gridGroup]="gridGroup?"></p>

However, both attempts resulted in compile errors.

Answer №1

Ensure the gridGroup property in your component is initialized to a default value. This will prevent errors if the property is not defined in the parent component.

Answer №2

Here is an example of how it can be achieved

@Input defineGridGroup(newValue: any) {
      this._gridGroup= newValue;
      performAction(newValue);
    }
