Transform a <ul> into an <ol> format (replacing bullets with numbers)

This question presents a challenge, but there may be a solution waiting to be uncovered.

Presently, I am utilizing the Kendo UI panelbar for developing expandable lists. However, an issue surfaces when employing an <ol> as the sublist - in this scenario, the panelbar's functionality becomes disabled.

Illustration on Fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/b3y62uzr/2/

HTML Source Code:

<ul id="panelBar1">
    <li>
        Item 1
            <ul>
                <li>Sub Item 1</li>
                <li>Sub Item 2</li>
            </ul>
    </li>
    <li>Item 2
            <ol>
                <li>Sub Item 1</li>
                <li>Sub Item 2</li>
            </ol>
    </li>
</ul>

An observation can be made that the first item is operable for expansion/collapse, while the second item remains exposed and unresponsive to interaction.

In my context, a numbered sub-list within an expanded section is necessitated, rather than one with bullet points. (For visual purposes, the Kendo Panelbar styling was adjusted to exhibit bullets).

The query posed: Can modifications allow an <ul> to incorporate numbers instead of bullet symbols?

Amendment: Feel free to utilize this Fiddle for your response: https://jsfiddle.net/1h2kLqu4/1/

Answer №1

Absolutely, the list-style-type CSS property can be utilized for unordered lists.

To style it, you can do the following:

ul li{
    list-style-type: decimal;
}
