Transitioning to Material-ui Version 4

During the process of upgrading material-ui in my React Application from version 3.9.3 to version 4.3.2, I encountered an error message stating TypeError: styles_1.createGenerateClassName is not a function.

I am feeling lost when it comes to transitioning to Material UI V4. Can someone please advise me on which packages are essential and their respective versions?

If anyone has experience dealing with this situation, I would greatly appreciate your assistance.

Thank you.

Below is a snippet from my package.json file:

"dependencies": {
    "react": "^16.8.6",
    "react-dom": "^16.8.6",
    "@date-io/moment": "^1.3.1",
    "@material-ui/core": "4.3.0",
    "@material-ui/icons": "4.2.1",
    "@material-ui/styles": "4.3.0",
}

Answer №1

Version 3 introduced createGenerateClassName from the package @material-ui/core:

import { createGenerateClassName } from '@material-ui/core/styles';

However, in Version 4, this functionality can be found in the dependency @material-ui/styles:

import { createGenerateClassName } from '@material-ui/styles';
