Unable to locate module 'fs'

Hey there, I'm encountering an issue where the simplest Typescript Node.js setup isn't working for me. The error message I'm getting is TS2307: Cannot find module 'fs'. You can check out the question on Stack Overflow here.

I've tried a solution that was suggested, but I still can't get it to work.

Here are my dependencies:

"dependencies": {
    "@angular/animations": "^4.0.0",
    ...
}

This is my tsconfig.json file:

{
  "compileOnSave": false,
  ...
}

In my code, when I try to import fs like this:

import * as fs from 'fs';

export const environment = {
  production: false,
  hmr: true
};

I receive the following error message:

ERROR in .../src/environments/environment.hmr.ts (1,21): Cannot find module 'fs'.

If anyone has any suggestions or solutions, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

Answer №1

Here is the solution that worked for me:

Run this command in your terminal: npm install --save-dev @types/node

Answer №2

I have discovered the answer:

import { writeFileSync, readFileSync } from 'fs';

The solution is successful!

Answer №3

It may be a bit late, but I recently encountered the same issue and found a workaround that worked for me. If you're still interested, you can add "node_modules/@types/node" to your tsconfig.json file under the "typeRoots" section like this:

{
  "compileOnSave": false,
  "compilerOptions": {
    "baseUrl": "./",
    "outDir": "./dist/out-tsc",
    "sourceMap": true,
    "declaration": false,
    "downlevelIteration": true,
    "experimentalDecorators": true,
    "module": "esnext",
    "moduleResolution": "node",
    "importHelpers": true,
    "target": "es2015",
    "typeRoots": [
      "node_modules/@types",
      "node_modules/@types/node"
    ],
    "lib": [
      "es2018",
      "dom"
    ]
  }
}

Answer №4

Consider including a module-env path within your .js file by implementing the following code:

module.paths.push('.\node_modules');

Are you currently using Node for this?

Instead of using import fs from fs, why not give it a try?

You can also experiment with require and see what happens
