Utilize Firebase for Playwright to efficiently implement 'State Reuse' and 'Authentication Reuse'

In my testing environment, I want to eliminate the need for repeated login actions in each test run. My approach involves implementing 'Re-use state' and 'Re-use Authentication', but I've encountered a challenge with Firebase using indexedDB instead of Cookies or SessionStorage. The StorageState function does not persist the indexedDB data, prompting me to seek a solution for this issue. Can you help?

global-setup.ts:

import { Browser, chromium, expect, Page } from "@playwright/test";

async function globalSetup(){
  const browser = await chromium.launch({headless: false});
  const context = await browser.newContext();
  const page: Page = await context.newPage();
  await page.goto("<'url'>")
  await page.getByLabel('Email').fill('<'email'>');
  await page.getByLabel('Password').fill('<'password'>');
  await page.getByRole('button', { name: 'Sign in' }).click();
  await expect (page.getByRole('link', { name: 'logo' })).toBeVisible({ timeout: 30000 });

  //save state
  await page.context().storageState({ path: "./LoginAuth.json" });

  await browser.close();
}

export default globalSetup;

One way to save and restore the indexedDB is by storing it in localStorage. Here's how you can achieve this:

I saved the indexedDB in localStorage by using the database name as the key and stringified JSON of the storage objects as values. This way, each entry in the localStorage represents a database. I utilized basic authentication from playwright's authentication documentation. In the setup file, include the following code:

 (Code snippet provided)

To reconstruct the indexedDB databases, create an additional file called auth.utils.ts with the necessary code.

Lastly, add the authentication function to every test where authentication is required. This method allows for flexibility in handling multiple and diverse DBs.

By implementing this approach, you can effectively manage and restore your indexedDB data. Hopefully, this solution proves helpful!
