Utilizing .NET MVC for incorporating HTML attributes with @HTMLTextAreaFor

I'm encountering an issue when trying to add HTML attributes to a text area using the @HTML command. Specifically, I am attempting to include a class name, but it doesn't seem to be working as expected.

Below is the code snippet that I am working with:

 @Html.TextAreaFor(model => model.Message, new { htmlAttributes = new { @class = "required-field" } })

However, when this code is executed, it generates the following output:

<textarea id="Message" rows="2" name="Message" htmlattributes="{ class = required-field }" data-val-required="The Message field is required." data-val="true" cols="20"></textarea>

I find it puzzling that instead of displaying class="required-field", it shows htmlattributes="{ class = required-field }". Strangely, the same code works perfectly fine for regular text inputs, such as:

@Html.EditorFor(model => model.Email, new { htmlAttributes = new { @class = "required-field" } })

If anyone can provide assistance or insight into why this discrepancy exists, I would greatly appreciate it.

Appreciation to Stephen Muecke for the guidance "It's simply @Html.TextAreaFor(model => model.Message, new { @class = "required-field" })"
