What are the problems with Internet Explorer in Selenium WebDriver?

Currently dealing with a mouse-over issue in IE while using webdriver code. The functionality works smoothly in Chrome and Firefox, however, the problem arises only in IE. How can I resolve this? Initially focusing on an element and then clicking on a link is what I need to achieve. Below is the code snippet:

WebElement newbutton = driver.findElement(By.xpath("//html/body/div/span/form[2]/div/div/div[3]/div[2]/ul/span/li"));
Actions action = new Actions(driver);
action.moveToElement(newbutton).build().perform();
WebElement nextButton=driver.findElement(By.xpath(".//*[@id='menuFmId:headerForm:j_id130']/li/span"));

Actions action1 = new Actions(driver);
action1.moveToElement(nextButton).click(nextButton).build().perform();

Answer №1

Dealing with recurring issues while working on Internet Explorer has become a common occurrence for me. The behavior of pages on IE can be quite unpredictable at times. Despite spending a significant amount of time searching for a conventional solution to enable hovering in IE, I eventually resorted to using Javascript.

public void mouseHoverJScript(WebElement HoverElement) {
        String mouseOverScript = "if(document.createEvent){var evObj = document.createEvent('MouseEvents');evObj.initEvent('mouseover', true, false); arguments[0].dispatchEvent(evObj);} else if(document.createEventObject) { arguments[0].fireEvent('onmouseover');}";
        ((JavascriptExecutor) driver).executeScript(mouseOverScript, HoverElement);
    }

I understand that this may not be the preferred approach, but it helped me overcome the hurdle and complete my task.
